Sydney train passenger’s ‘selfish’ act sparks anger: ‘So wrong’

A Sydney train commuter caught in a controversial act has been slammed for her disregard for her fellow commuters.

An irritated passenger on the morning train from Cronulla to Bondi Junction photographed a woman she said placed her feet on the seat opposite her, despite people needing to sit down.

Hoping to catch the woman’s attention in a community Facebook group, the aggrieved passenger shared her photo and her disapproval of the woman’s behaviour.

“Please note that it is not right to place your feet on the seat opposite yours,” she said on the Essential Sutherland Shire Facebook group on Wednesday. “You kept your feet on and were reluctant to put them down when another lady needed to sit down. You then placed them up next to her.”

“I’m sorry but this is just wrong,’ she continued. “It’s not your lounge room”.

She said the reason she was posting was to “raise awareness” and she didn’t think someone with “such an attitude” would “appreciate her comments”, which is why she didn’t say anything to her in person.

Yahoo News Australia contacted the woman who posted the image. She said she had no further comment to add to what she said in the post.

‘No respect for anything’

Passengers are discouraged from putting their feet on seats on trains, busses, ferries, light rail and essentially any form of public transport.

In NSW, the penalty for putting your feet up on seats is $100, with the maximum penalty being $1000.

In the comments of the post, people are angry over the passenger’s actions, calling it “disgusting”. “Unbelievable!! Selfish. I didn’t think bags needed a seat as well,” one person also observed.

“Totally agree! Karma will get her… maybe she might sit on some dog s**t from someone’s shoes,” another jokingly said. “That’s how a lot of people are, no respect for anything,” a third person wrote.
