Georgia housewife Lindsay Shiver protested her innocence today as she was seen for the first time since her arrest for allegedly plotting with a lover to assassinate her ex-football player husband in the Bahamas.

Shiver, 36, shook her head and mouthed the word ‘no’ when a DailyMail.com reporter asked if she had tried to hire a hitman to murder Robert, 38, the father of her three young boys.

The former cheerleader spent six hours inside a sweltering Nassau police station attempting to secure her release on $100,000 bail.

But she was led out again in handcuffs and driven back to the notoriously harsh Fox Hill Prison after a judge ordered that she spend at least one more night behind bars ahead of a Wednesday bail hearing.

Wearing flip flops, ripped blue jeans and a tight white V-neck, Shiver looked ready for the beach when she arrived at the police HQ at 10:45am to try and secure her release.

The petite prisoner had her mousy blonde hair tied up in a scruffy bun and was sporting immaculately manicured pink nails – but did not appear to be wearing her wedding ring.

When she emerged at 5pm she looked drained and anxious, shielding her face with a manila envelope but stopping briefly to respond to our question before being placed back into a corrections van.

Prosecutors say Shiver was far more forthcoming in a WhatsApp chat with alleged hitman Faron Newbold, 29, claiming she sent him a picture of insurance mogul Robert along with a text stating: ‘Kill him.’

Shiver, her barman boyfriend Terrance Bethel, 28, and Newbold, his childhood friend, all face up to 60 years behind bars if they are convicted of plotting the attempted hit.

The blonde has so far spent 18 days inside Nassau’s Fox Hill prison which is notorious for its overcrowding, violence and grim living conditions.

She is expected at a bail hearing Wednesday, her attorney Ian Cargill having failed to spring her from the rat-infested 1950’s lockup a day early.

Shiver’s parents Cecilia and Andrew are said to be just as ‘bewildered’ by the supposed ‘murder-for-hire’ plot as her estranged husband, who is safely back in Thomasville, George with their three boys aged four, six and 10.

The accused are expected to argue they were just ‘sounding off’ and there was never any intention to harm former Auburn University football captain Robert, who filed for divorce in April, accusing wife Lindsay of cheating.

DailyMail.com previously reported that ex-beauty pageant contestant Shiver has spent the past several months jetting back and forth from Georgia to the Caribbean to see Bethel while her husband and kids remained at the $2.5 million marital home.

Her family and friends begged her to ‘come to her senses’ and end the fling when Robert found out about it in February, according to a well-placed source.

But his wife-of-13 years had become ‘completely obsessed’ with the handsome, younger man.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com this week, Bethel declared his love for Shiver and said the marriage was on the rocks long before he came on the scene.

He predicted the case against them would fall apart because cops have blown a few heated remarks out of all proportion.

‘Go and get the transcripts from the police,’ the bar worker and businessman fumed in his first public comments.

‘They have had both of my phones for three weeks. They’ve been through every single message – there’s nothing there.

‘None of us have anything to hide. People are taking everything at face value and defaming us.’

Prosecutors will have to prove the three were engaged in a credible plot if they are to convict them of conspiracy to commit murder, which carries a prison sentence of 30 to 60 years.

The scheme emerged by chance when the management at Grabbers, a rum-soaked waterfront bar where staffer Bethel first hit it off with a vacationing Shiver, reported a break-in to police around July 20.

The thief had cut power cables and disabled the generator to ensure security cameras wouldn’t work before slipping inside the office to ransack a safe.

Fearing the work of an insider, cops insisted on looking at Bethel’s phone and stumbled across unrelated messages in which he allegedly told childhood pal Newbold he wanted to ‘murder’ Robert.

Sources say that Shiver suspected that her estranged husband, whose family owns property in an exclusive nearby resort named Baker’s Bay, was exerting influence to make life hard for her new lover.

She sent Newbold a picture of Robert along with an alleged instruction to murder him, it’s claimed, leading to all three being arrested on July 21 and flown to Nassau, the Bahamian capital, to face charges.

Bethel and Newbold, a wannabe rapper and politician’s son, were fitted with ankle monitors and ordered to steer clear of one another after their release Thursday on $20,000 bail.

Shiver and Robert were scheduled to square off on July 20 in Thomas County Superior Court, where they have filed explosive counterclaims against each other in a hostile custody battle.

While Robert accused his wife of cheating, she countered with accusations of ‘physical and mentally cruel treatment.’

Shiver claimed her supposed affair was during a time of separation and was ‘legally condoned by husband’, according to court documents.

Her attorney suggested Robert was abusive, writing in a restraining order request: ‘(Shiver) feels unsafe in the marital home and has installed locks on the interior doors of the home for protection.

‘(Robert) has abused the wife in the home in the children’s presence on multiple occasions, not only physically but also mentally and emotionally.’

Alabama native Shiver graduated from Auburn University, where the two met in 2007 while Robert was captain of the football team.

Robert is the son of Allen Shiver, who served for more than four decades as CEO of Flowers Foods before stepping down in 2019 from the $5 billion company.

The pair have three sons together with the youngest just four years old. He proudly mentions his children in his Instagram profile which reads: ‘Dad to the trio!’

Robert signed with the NFL team Atlanta Falcons as a free agent but was let go in roster cuts ahead of the 2009 season and eventually became executive vice president for Senior Life Insurance Company.

Lindsay was named Miss Houston County in 2005 and finished second in the National Peanut Festival pageant.

DailyMail.com previously unmasked Newbold – alias Faylo – as a music producer and son of a local politician in Marsh Harbour, the main town in Abaco.

His day job is working as a structural engineer for a power company and friends have laughed off suggestions he was moonlighting as a killer-for-hire.

‘I’ve told you guys, I’ll speak to you when my lawyer says it’s OK,’ Newbold said Friday, after DailyMail.com tracked him down to a smart new home he built himself.

No charges have been filed in relation to the alleged robbery at Grabbers.
